Gwen Symons Memorial Award

This scholarship recognises a year 10 student who is succeeding academically, in the face of challenging circumstances. The scholarship is designed to support a young woman to continue her education, through year 11 and 12. We hope to assist in providing a pathway to senior secondary completion and future tertiary studies.
Established in 1985, in memory of Zonta Bendigo charter member Gwen Symons. Timeline 2025 Applications Open: Term 4, Week 1 (Oct 6th) Applications Close: Term 4, Week 6 (Nov 14th) Interviews Conducted: Term 4, Weeks 7 & 8 (Nov 17th-28th) Annoucements made early Dec Presented at the Zonta International Women's Day Dinner in the following year Complete the application form available below and submit via email by the due date above. Please ensure that the declaration, verificiation and recommendations on the application form are completed. Selection The Zonta Club nominates an evaluation panel to assess the applications and shortlist applicants for an interview from which the panel will select one winner. Award & Scholarship Money The recipient of the Gwen Symons Memorial Scholarship will be notified ahead of our International Women's Day Dinner, held annually on the first Tuesday of March. Cost of attending the dinner, for the recipient, is covered by the club, guests are welcome to attend at the ticketed price. The Gwen Symons Memorial Scholarship is valued at $1,000pa. It will be awarded upon evidence that the recipient is succeeding academically given her circumstances. The winner may receive scholarship support for a second year of her education upon evidence of satisfactory progress in the first year of the scholarship. Application Information
