Only 8.2% of S&P 500 company CEOs are women. While women have made great strides in the pursuit of education, careers, and leadership roles that they were once denied, they still comprise a minority of leaders in the business world. As of March 2023, women hold nearly 34% of committee chairs in the S&P 500 and hold 31% of director seats. Zonta International's Jane M. Klausman (JMK) Women in Business Scholarship helps women pursue undergraduate and master's degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom. First awarded in 1998, the program is designed to encourage women to enter careers and to seek leadership positions in business fields in their communities and throughout the world. The JMK Women in Business Scholarships look to the women of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. Eligibility Women of any age, pursuing a business program with major field of specialisation in:
Online students are also eligible to apply if enrolled at an accredited university/college/institute. Students must be enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through to the final year of a Master's program at the time the application is submitted to the local Zonta club. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship recipients may not apply to renew the Scholarship for a second year. Golden Z club members may apply. Application The application starts at the club level - here with us at Zonta Bendigo. Please download and read the application form in full before completing. All parts of the application must be completed, signed where appropriate and submitted to our club via email or post by the printed deadline. Applications closed for 2024. Selection The Zonta Club nominates an evaluation panel to assess the applications and shortlist applicants for an interview, either in person or via phone, from which the panel will select one winner. The winning applicant's application will also be sent to the District Governor, for us this is District 23. A district/region evaluating committee reviews the applications and selects one applicant per district/region to submit to Zonta International Headquarters. The Zonta International JMK Award Committee recommends 10 international recipients from the district/region applications to the Zonta International Board. After approval by the Zonta International Board, the Zonta International Foundation provides awards and certificates to the district/region, and international recipients. Click here for more information regarding the International award. Award & Scholarship Money The recipient will be notified ahead of our International Women's Day Dinner, held annually on the first Tuesday of March. The Zonta Club of Bendigo will present a certificate and, unless presented earlier, a $750.00 cheque on the night. Cost of attending the dinner for the recipient is covered by the club. Guests are welcome to attend at the ticketed price. |
